1K Miles of Hope | Ep. 05: Fifth Day

July 2, 2026

I decide to run 1,000 miles over 100 days against cancer.

Day five. The left ankle says no.

Not a negotiation — just no. I test it in the morning. The pain is immediate, clear, without ambiguity. I've learned enough over these days to know the difference between pain you can push through and pain that is telling you something. This is the second kind.

I don't run. Not a single mile.

There's a specific frustration that comes with forced rest inside a project like this — it's not laziness, it's not giving up, but it doesn't feel like progress either. The miles don't stop adding up in my head. The goal doesn't move. Only I stay still.

I treat the ankle. I work on everything else I can control. The project keeps moving even when I don't.

Tomorrow I try again.

I'm here to raise funds for cancer research.

I used to hear that prevention was enough — but then I found out it isn't. There are far more variables than we can imagine. The best path forward is a cure. Make your donation. Let's be part of this together.
